Giving Tuesday is a worldwide movement dedicated to the celebration of charitable giving. Observed the Tuesday after every Thanksgiving, it encourages giving back, whether through volunteering, monetary gifts, or donating your talents to a worthy cause.
This year, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) has set a Giving Tuesday goal of raising $5,000 for our Starfish Medical Fund.
June the Jack Russell mix (left) is one of many animals that have been helped by the Starfish Fund. It paid for rehabilitation that helped June recover from a spinal condition.
Other recipients have included:
-- Starfish, after whom the fund is named, a German shepherd puppy born with Swimmer's Syndrome.
-- Toto, a terrier whose shattered leg had to be amputated after he was hit by a car.
-- Kumar, a sick hound puppy saved from parvovirus.
-- Poseidon, an American Staffordshire with eye disease who needed enucleation surgery.
-- Mack, an American Staffordshire who needed surgery to repair a torn ACL.
-- Phoenix, a four-week-old kitten found abandoned in a back yard, dehydrated and near death.
Help us keep our Starfish Medical Fund available for all the homeless animals we receive that need urgent medical care. With this Fund, each and every one of these animals gets a second chance to heal and to be adopted into a new, loving home!
Donate to the Starfish Medical Fund now. Please indicate in the Notes box that you are donating in celebration of Giving Tuesday. Thank you!
Another way to donate is through Facebook. You can also double your impact. Here's how: create a Facebook Fundraiser for #GivingTuesday, choose Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter as your recipient, and ask your Facebook friends to donate a few dollars. Facebook will match all the donations you receive on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3 (24 hours, from 12 AM to 11:59 PM).
